I just found this guy today. He is neat. Check him out!

My TO DO list:

1. Read more history
2. Get passports for the whole family
3. Learn how to vlog
Dreams

Lucas is scared of his dreams, all of a sudden. Sunday morning he came and got in bed with me, whimpering about a bad dream. I just snuggled him for a while. Later in the day, he brought it up several times. It must have been a pretty bad one, poor guy. So last night, he tried to stay awake so he wouldn't have any dreams. And for him, staying awake is not a problem. It was about midnight when he finally drifted off! Well, this morning he comes and gets in bed with me and says with his little lisp..."Mommy, my dream was disgusthting!" What a word! I didn't know he even knew it. Wonder what bedtime will be like tonight....

School

There are lots of characters at school that I think deserve some print time here. Students and instructors, alike. I don't buddy up with very many people at school. I guess I'm more of a loner, plus I'm much older than most of the day students.

We'll start with my commercial law class. The instructor, an absolute dinosour, is no joy to learn from. He walks in the room without ever addressing the class, turns and writes the days lesson on the chalk board, in cursive, in outline form. Mind you, we already have the text and an outline that he told us to purchase additionally. Once it took him 45 minutes of class time to do this.

In said law class, we have a student I'll call Mr. Suspicious. He always looks disbelievingly at Mr. Dinosour, as if the book can't be right. Mr. Suspicious asks questions like, "And how does that reconcile with what we just learned in the last chapter about bailments?" I just want to shake him and tell him he is probably not going to be the one guy that makes Mr. Dinosour and the rest of the legal field realize they've been operating under a misunderstanding of the universal commercial code. But, he'll just have to come to that realization himself one day.

Brand new habit

`
I've been weaning Daniel off the bottle since he was just a little over 12 months. Now he is 17 1/2 months old. Why is it taking so long? Because 3boyzdad won't stop giving him a "tete" to go to sleep at night!! I tell him he's the one hooked on the bottle, not Daniel. Well, one night I substituted the pacifier, or "chupo" in espaƱol, and to my surprise, it is Daniel's new go-anywhere accessory!

Daniel and Grandma at Lake Murray over the Labor Day weekend.

Labor Day. Aaron at the paintball field. He had a BLAST!

He took a shot to the mask!

Here is Aaron at one of his recent golf lessons. I think he really enjoyed playing this summer. His last lesson is tomorrow. Then, he will also take Golf as an elective at school after Christmas. I wonder how that is going to work.

My mom and I are taking the kids camping next weekend for Labor Day weekend. Hopefully, there won't be rain like this weekend! We pulled the RV out and filled it up with gas. I think the idle is low because it is dying at the stop signs, but otherwise, it's good to go.

Here is Chewy decorating the furniture last night. He is at the vet right now getting f-i-x-e-d. Shhhhhh. We didn't tell him anything about it.

Today I got a "gift" from one of my cats. Lucas went outside to play and there on the front porch was a carefully placed dead bird. I hope this doesn't become a habit. ...Off to clean it up...

I feel like I've made some permanent changes in my eating habits, so I thought I would list them here.

1. Changed from regular butter and margarine to fat free. There is one called Promise. It tastes okay. Parkay has a fat free spray-on that has the fake taste of buttered popcorn. It gets me by. It is worth it because I'm saving 7 to 9 fat grams per tablespoon which probably translates into an average of 12 to 18 fat gram savings per day when you think of buttering a roll or two with dinner and maybe having a toast with jelly in the morning.

2. I've tried to kick the coke habit (the cola kind) but it has been tough. I love the first few sips of a cold fresh coke. I found some cola can plastic tops so that you can "close" the can and put it back in the fridge. It saves the fizz a bit better than just sticking an open can in there. So now one 12 oz can of coke can easily lasts me all day. This way I don't feel obligated to drink the whole thing at once.

3. I'm reading nutrition labels and I found this website that has every food imaginable in different portions to measure calories, fat, and protein. It also has a "pantry" where you can save what you've eaten during the day and it will keep a running total. Pretty cool.

4. My portion control has really improved since I started writing down what I was eating. I haven't written it down for a while, but after doing it for over a week or so at the beginning I learned about what I could eat during the day. When I'm starving I eat cereal, fruit or graham crackers. I eat a Lean Cuisine every once in a while because that takes all the guess work out of what I'm eating. If I eat whatever the family is eating for a meal, I know I have to keep the main portion size to about a cup.

5. I changed from 2% milk to 1%. Can't even tell the difference.

Biking and Bonding

As I write this my hands and knees are throbbing with pain. Blood is hardened on my kneecaps. My right wrist feels terribly sprained...actually feels broken, but it still moves and the fingers are typing this almost as fast as usual.

Aaron and I went on our first "bike and bond" ride tonight. We were clipping along with ambitions to go all the way around Lake Overholser. The sun was giving way, finally letting the 100 degree temps fall into the high 90's. The wind was blowing through the hair on our non-helmetted heads. We stopped a couple of times to lake gaze and also check out the new playground the city has built on the West side. It is too cool, lots of slides and fun things for little ones to do. We got back on the bikes and headed out for the last stretch home.

The sun was setting now and I was telling Aaron how Lake Overholser used to just be for drugs and making out but now it is getting so beautiful and useful. There were many bikers out there, lots of couples walking across the dam, just gazing and talking. A few dog walkers, and of course, the everpresent fisherpeople. We laughed and I challenged him to a race which lasted all of about 5-10 seconds. He claimed victory as soon as he had a gain on me.

Then, I saw it. I thought about it. I wondered what the best plan of action would be. I chose to do nothing and when my bike and its inexperienced rider failed to go over the huge, metal hose across the middle of the bike trail I was thrown forward, my bike screeched to a halt and the handlebars flipped around twice. My face was spared the pavement by my hands, my knees were not spared. My whole left arm hit the pavement but didn't come out any worse for the wear.

I thought I was ruined plus my bike wouldn't budge. I figured it was trashed. I called for 3boyzdad to come get me, but he didn't answer. I tried my mom, no answer. Turns out, they were talking to each other! Aaron figured out that my handlebars just needed to be straightened back out. I got on and moaned all the way home about how much my wrist hurts and that I think I may need an X-ray. He reminded me that when he thought his foot was broken I just told him to give it time, it would get better. I explained that since I couldn't feel his foot it wasn't a pressing matter to me, but I could feel my wrist! Aren't I terrible.! It is hard to feel someone else's pain.

Lesson of the day: Wear your helmet, and when you fall off your bike, get right back on.

I got a new bike today! I'm so pumped. It is a Schwinn from a bike shop...as opposed to Walmart. I plan to supplement my two workouts a week with a couple of hours of bike riding. The cool thing is the city is working on connecting downtown, Lake Overholser and Lake Hefner all together via bike trails. How fun! I went out today and rode to Lake Overholser from my house and back. The trails there were great so now I just have to work up my stamina. Craziest thing, though, I took the bike out this evening just for the pic and it already has a flat! I'm taking that tire into the shop tomorrow.

This is Callie trying to drink the fishy water!

Had to take Daniel to the Dr. yesterday for a serious ear infection. He got antibiotics and is already much better. Lucas goes today for his 5 year check up. I think there will be a shot involved! Lucas is actually really looking forward to school starting. Two weeks to go.

Later.

Today was finals for the summer semester. Wahoo! It's over for me until August 21st. I know I made an A on my Finance final and an A for the class. And for Management I know I had an A before the final, but I spent all my precious study time on Finance. So management will either be an A or a B.

I spoke to the department chair about graduation and it sounds like I'm on track for graduating in the Spring. I have to get my transcript certified by my advisor, then apply for graduation. I talked to her about the Masters program. It is a new program for the school, there are seven broad business courses to take, none with as much homework as an upper level accounting course.

3boyzdad (whom I'm thinking of renaming Tenderheart because he can't stand to watch such things as Andrea Yates, or imagine taking a stray cat to the pound) started his new job at Dell on Monday and says everyone is really nice and he thinks he is going to like it fine. Their office will have a gym and they will pay him for doing things like joining a walking group and quitting smoking. It does sound like a super structured environment but otherwise very good.

Summer of Watermelon

We have eaten so much watermelon this summer, about one a week since they came into season. We cut it up and put it in the refrigerator, then I salt mine. YUM!

Lucas went to the grocery store with me tonight and he was soooo good. Stayed right with me the whole time, no screaming or crying. Huge step for mankind we are talking about here.

Daniel has the big light bulb on over his head. It is like he just all of a sudden knows where everything goes. I had the dishwasher open the other day and he threw his cup in. Give him the phone and he dials, puts it to his ear and then walks around babbling. A hairbrush goes straight to his head, toothbrush straight to his mouth. Just a little walking genius, he is.

Last of all, here is a pic of the fish that I have apparently raised from just a little fry. Whoever his parent was has died, but he is going strong. My tank is going through some issues (some little angel dumped the food packet in) and I've had to restock the fish.

This week brought a big hiccup in my life plan. I went on a job interview. A couple of weeks ago I applied to an anonymous company on Craigslist with the same expectation as all the other jobs I've applied to......nothing. They called. I ignored. They emailed. I responded. They called for an interview. I went. I actually went thinking it was probably a scam because of the salary they advertised in the ad. I figured if they were calling me, then they wanted $100 for the start up kit. Know what I mean? Turns out, it is a legitimate audit company that recognized the company I used to work for and wants my background for a contract audit job. The catch is they pay commission only for recovery audit work. Could be big money, could be no money. Flexible schedule as I would be independant. The client they are working on now is expected to last about 6 months. Could be work after that, maybe not. Lots of variables, some risk. I've been thinking about it for the last 24 hours and virtually nothing else.

Work outs are going well. My trainer gave me a diet to follow and I think it is already working. I'm supposed to stay at 1400 calories and 31 fat grams. I haven't ever hit the mark exactly, but each day I get closer. Learning how to space your food over the day is a big challenge. Have to be careful or all your fat grams are used up at breakfast. Also, it is a "on three days, off one day" type deal. The idea is to always keep your body guessing what's going on. If you consistently eat low fat and calories, the body will figure out your game plan and start conserving calories. It's the same with the workout. We never do the same thing two workouts in a row because a routine workout gives your body a chance to conserve.

Now for my gripe of the week. I wanted to join Aaron in his golf lessons for the last few weeks of his summer session. This is a kids class but it isn't full and I figured I would be a bargain for the instructor to just let me sit in on the classes and learn along with the kids. Well, long story short, one of the other moms objected to me taking the class. I'm not sure why but I am probably not objective at all. I rationalize that the class is not full and I would surely take less instructor time than an additional youth. So, why?

Okay, now for some interaction. I know several of you have taken really cool vacations this summer. Or you are headed on a cool vacation. E-mail me your favorite vacation pic to jessicag361@cox.net along with a note about where you are, etc. and I'll post them on the blog. Put "blog" in the subject line for me. Fun, huh!

Life's a Parade

Happy 4th of July all! Nice long weekend, lovin' it!

I went to see Superman last night and it was very good. I won't give anything away here in my review so you are safe to read on. Man, is Superman just the sexiest or what!! And what makes him so drastically sexy? Body of steel? Eyes of blue? 6'4" build? Never tells a lie? Flies? All of these things help, but I think it is his ability to protect. Nothing makes a girl fall in love like feeling safe in a man's care. Superman does it through strength, but Donald Trump does it through money. Security can be from lots of different things. 3boyzdad makes me feel safe because I know he is loyal and dependable. That's what makes him so loveable, that and his accent. Hee hee.

Well, that was last night. Today was Beauty and the Beast at Lyric Theatre and I have to say they did an excellent job. I feel completely qualified to judge because I saw Beauty and the Beast live on Broadway (or was it "off" Broadway? Wherever, it was in Manhatten somewhere!) several years ago. It was awesome, truly awesome then. I took Aaron and he must have been younger than 10, maybe even 8. He loved it. It was a great experience for him. So anyway, Lyric did a really nice job, the stage was beautiful and the costumes were great. It ran a little long in my opinion, but then, I'm always in a hurry to get somewhere. Well, I compared 3boyzdad to Superman, shall I compare him to the Beast, too? I'm sure I could find similarities, if not just in morning breath. But, alas, I shall take the higher road and liken him to the Prince the Beast becomes after he learns how to love and be loved. I'm so sweet.

Well, actually, I do have a funny story to tell about old 3boyzdad. Years ago I used to tease him that someday in public I'm going to embarrass him. It will go something like this: We'll be sitting side by side waiting for our number to be called. There will be several other people in this lobby or whatever it is. He will turn to me just to say something or make a point and I will throw my hands up like I'm guarding my face. I'll do this like it's a gut reaction and I'm scared of him. I don't know why I think this is so funny, but it has cracked me up thinking about it for years. I'm sure I wouldn't think it half as funny if him hitting me were an actual possibility. Well, his new thing all of a sudden is to give me my way just to "keep me from throwing a fit". He says this in such a way that a stranger would think I throw house rocking, tizzie fits if I don't get my way. So goes life at our house but we march on.

New project: Sorting pictures
Last project: Cleaned/Organized garage.
Next project: Maybe the yard. It's getting messy.

Long time no blog

Time goes fast when you are having fun. Rah Rah, I love summer!

This weekend I've been cleaning and organizing the garage. It is so much better! All the doorways are unblocked and lots of junk is in the trash.

I went house looking with my mom and her friend today and although it is still too early for me to actually consider moving, we found an awesome house. Almost 3000 square feet with all kinds of rooms, extra living areas, storage areas, etc. I love to look. But, it is a waste of energy until I'm really ready, so I won't look again for a long time.

The other day while driving home I was just surrounded by loud booming music coming from other cars. At first I thought it was just one, but then it must have been joined by another one. So, I was sitting at a stop light and this insanely loud vibrating booming just surrounds me. Well, I couldn't just drive on, noooooo. I figured out the car must have been behind me so I slowed down to 30 mph. Trying to get my disdain across to them, but really only causing myself to have to listen to it longer. At the next light I tried to give evil eyes and honked at one car that I thought it was. Then, I finally made a turn so I thought I would lose it, but no, the booming noise still followed me. The culprit pulled around me to pass me with his window down, so I honked again. I guess that is one way to know you are getting old, honking at young kids with loud music!

Boo Hoo

I am such a big baby!

As I lazed around in bed this morning flipping through the channels I realized I must have cried on 80% of the segments I watched. Stuff like Jan Brady deciding it is better not to be an only child, a deaf man who overcame polio as a child celebrating 20 years on the same job, TLC's bringing a baby home from the hospital (again and again), and more all make me tear up. When 3boyzdad and I watch TV together, Grey's Anatomy for instance, he makes fun of me because I'm crying half the time. Aaah crying...it's a great release anyway.

School is trucking along, first test is Monday. Finance is for weenies. Yes, you heard me. Accountants are the real heavyweights. FINANCE IS FOR WEENIES!
But I must say I'm enjoying going to school during the day. Commuters, like myself, really don't make much use of the university. We just screech into parking spot, run to class and peel out for home. But students that have time, say a lunch break between classes, might actually sit in the nice quiet cafeteria by the calm pond with geese leading their babies around. It's a great place to do homework.

Additionally, I find myself communicating with the professors during their office hours more. It makes me feel like more than a number, that is of course if the professor is personable also. No, I don't go chat. Strictly business, but business that would either be rushed after class or ignored altogether had I not the time to step into their office and work it out. This is good.

Summer School

Summer school started this week, so naturally, I added a new house project, too. I am painting my living room floor. The project is going pretty well, amazingly easy. When I'm done I'll post the pics.

My professors for this summer are very unimpressive! One might turn out to be okay, but so far has had diarhea of the mouth and chronic technical problems. The other is a newbie with a plunging neckline. Gag me.

More projects in the house are getting accomplished little by little. One major hall closet is 1/2 done which led to a huge freecycle bonanza. Then, my home desk got 1/2 done today, leading to a filing bonanza. Blah!

Lucas asked for one of those big round flat lollipops a few days ago, and I saw them today at the Cracker Barrell. So, I brought him one home for a surprise. He calls them lodipops (low-dee-pops). Cute!

My workouts are getting more and more intense. Yesterday, while I'm running stairs, hopping on one foot, long jumping, etc. other people with personal trainers are stretching and rolling around with exercise balls. One lady commented, "She's crawling!" My trainer says I'm getting the better workout with better results. I think he hates me.

New Book Club

http://www.bookcrossing.com/home

Check this link out. People from all over the world read books then leave them out in a public place for someone else to find, read and release. The books get an ID number which tracks it for the rest of its life. Pretty cool. Join the fun with me!
